Ashley Cleveland’s eighth full-length record was inspired serendipitously by NPR. She and husband Kenny Greenberg both happened to tune in to the same Fresh Air interview with Baylor University professor Robert Darden, an avid collector of obscure black gospel recordings. Greenberg immediately encouraged his three-time Grammy- and two-time Dove Award-winning wife to record an album of those tunes; the result was God Don’t Never Change, itself nominated for a Grammy. Greenberg has a similarly mind-blowing record of success. He’s worked with top artists including Taylor Swift, Faith Hill, Brooks & Dunn and Texas’ own Willie Nelson; produced Joan Baez; written Amy Grant’s “House of Love” and SheDaisy’s “Little Goodbyes”; and produced two of his wife’s Grammy-winners.
