Borne of a mutual friend in Baltimore, Beach House comprises guitarist Alex Scally and organist Victoria Legrand. Together the duo has released three highly acclaimed dream-pop albums, beginning with their 2006 self-titled debut, which sent all those Pitchfork types into a tizzy; the minimalist Devotion followed two years later. This year’s Teen Dream sees the duo at their new label home, Sub Pop, and explores the tension between Legrand’s languorous keys and Scally’s chomping-at-the-bit guitar. The result is a breathy atmospheric album that feels both very old and very modern as the pair expands its musical reach.
