There’s nothing caged about this Bowling Green, KY-based punk-funk spectacle. Known for raucous live performances led by singer Matt Schultz, the quintet behind Cage the Elephant makes music that meets somewhere between blues rock and garage punk, with danceable riffs, youthful, ramshackle grooves and quirky tales of frustration with the world. An outgrowth of brothers Matt and Brad Schultz’s early fascination with Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan and their need to rebel, Cage the Elephant released their acclaimed self-titled debut in 2009.
The album, featuring hits “Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked,” “Back Against The Wall,” and “In One Ear,” has gone on to sell more than 349,000 copies to date and has spent more than 1 year on the Billboard 200 Chart. After racking up over 1 million digital download track sales, the band reached yet another milestone when “In One Ear” climbed to #1 on the Billboard Alternative Radio Chart in July 2010, marking the band’s second #1 single and third Top 3 single on alternative radio.
