The Band of Heathens
With their 2009 release, One Foot in the Ether, Austin-based roots rockers the Band of Heathens finally grabbed a bigger chunk of the national spotlight they so richly deserve. Though lead singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalists Gordy Quist, Colin Brooks and Ed Jurdi, backed by bassist Seth Whitney and drummer John Chipman, didn’t set out to become a band (they were just sitting in together at Austin’s favorite musical incubator, Momo’s), once they embraced the idea—and the growing popularity their harmony-drenched sound earned them—they made it official. Comparisons to the Black Crowes, Little Feat, the subdudes and the Band fit just fine, but it’s their soulful originality that earned them a taping for Austin City Limits’ 35th-anniversary season, a 2009 Americana Music Honors & Awards nomination as New & Emerging Artist of the Year and a 2010 nomination as Duo/Group of the Year. cherikollar , about 1 year agoBy far my favorite new band. When I started listening to their CD's I couldn't stop for months. They will put on a great show. I am seeing them at a free show "Unplugged at the Grove" this Thursday. I love this town (Austin).
