Dreamy harmonies, thumping rhythms, art-school vox, churchy piano. Somehow the Brooklyn-based sextet White Rabbits manages to draw these disparate elements into a hugely compelling document, It’s Frightening, released in the spring of 2009. The band—formed in Columbia, Mo., by frontmen Greg Roberts and Stephen Patterson while they attended the state university—gained enough indie cred with its 2007 debut, Fort Nightly, to convince Spoon’s Britt Daniel to produce their follow-up. Not bad for a band that is younger than your average kindergartner. Heralded for their boundless onstage energy, White Rabbits have earned a reputation for being masters of the deconstructed cover song. TWEETS
